I must be really bothered by this high fuel cost thing. It has got me thinking about why we just can’t break the 35mpg mark in a conventional automobile. One problem I see is that most of the fuel is just used for cooling the piston. If you would lean out your fuel delivery and increase compression ratio you would burn up your rings.
Solution: Ceramic engine
I thought that if an engine was made of ceramic it could handle the heat. I also thought it should be a rotary engine just because it would require less moving parts.
Well I looked on the web and found CRE of Texas, Ceramic Rotary Engines. http://ceramicrotaryengines.com/
It turns out they are already way ahead of me. I also found some info about an engine with only 3 moving parts. It is called a spherical engine, it could produce as much horsepower as a big V8 and is just the size of a basketball. http://www.innomot.com/indexGB.html
I wonder if this technology is available why does the auto manufactures force us to use the inefficient engine? I would think that mass production would keep the cost per unit down.
